Patient Safety

Using Virtual Rounds

This website provides vignettes of real patient care settings in which subtle safety errors are staged.  Participants watch each video vignette and try to detect patient safety errors and vulnerabilities while developing critical decision-making skills needed to advance a culture of patient safety.

To use these materials, select a "Virtual Patient Safety Round" from the menu above called "Virtual Rounds". Watch the first video (the one that will be on your left) and make note of any and all patient safety violations that you observe. Watch the video clip as many times as you wish. Then watch the second video (the one that will be on your right) which will point out the safety risks that were in the first video.

These video clips were created by the Boston Children's Hospital Patient Safety program and the Boston College William F. Connell School of Nursing using a Grant awarded by the Boston Children's Hospital Program for Patient Safety Quality and Safety.

The safety risks identified in these videos are based on the Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals and Joint Commission Standards.
